Although MathsBlocks was designed for the teacher to use in a classroom situation
with a whiteboard and data projector, it can be used equally well on an individual
computer.
Because information is delivered step-by-step, on the click of the mouse, it is easy
for parent and child to assimilate the information. It is much more appealing than
being faced with a whole page of information at one go. Time is not wasted on waiting
for flashy titles or unnecessary graphics. You can work through a lesson as quickly,
or slowly, as you wish.
In the same way that the teacher needs to be 'one-step ahead', a parent also needs
to be familiar with the content of the lesson before presenting it to the child,
to make sure that the child has all the necessary background knowledge.
This is a valuable aid to covering the entire GCSE syllabus, for 11-16 year olds
though some of the lessons could be used with bright, younger children. It will also
cover much of the exam syllabus in other countries. Wherever you are, it should be
used with reference to the official syllabus for your chosen exam board and, if you
are not in UK, be aware that some spellings might be different.
