These pieces were commissioned by Lancashire County Council Education Authority as the first prize in the county's Mathematical Challenges for schools, in 2002 and 2003.
Each has an area of one square metre, in the same proportions as 'A' sizes of paper. They are a mixture of appliqué, quilting and embroidery, representing many mathematical ideas.
